What’s My Purpose?
Does your career feel purposeful? Does it feel like you have intentionally created your career or, does it feel like you’ve been watching it happen from the side line?
Have you ever looked back on the past five, or ten years, only to wonder where that time went and whether you spent that time on the things that truly mattered to you? Have you been following your own dream or, being influenced by those around you; societal norms and the expectations of others?
Many wonder; “what even is my dream!” As a result, you find yourself feeling lost, unfulfilled, unsure what you want, and stuck. Your career and therefore life more broadly, feels incongruent. Like a tight coat that you’ve outgrown.
Knowing your purpose can feel lofty, out of reach, and what ‘some other lucky person’ knows. Yet through some focused effort in this area, you can uncover what matters most to you right now. What you value most in life changes, therefore it’s only natural the purpose you feel drawn to fulfilling, is going to change over time too.
Feeling clarity in purpose is important, because it acts like an anchor, keeping you focused on what matters to you most during life’s inevitable unsettled times. Your purpose provides you with clarity in direction. Your purpose is also an important reference point when making decisions to ensure the decisions you make, feel purpose-aligned.
Five Questions to bring you closer to Uncovering your Purpose.
What work would you do without any pay?
What generates the highest level of fulfilment to the amount of time spent?
What would others say is a unique quality about you?
What activities or work leaves you feeling invigorated?
Where right now, do you feel you can make a small (or significant) difference?
Finding clarity in your purpose can take time, however working with a coach will help to fast track the discovery process and align your work and life to what matters to you most.
